We are pleased to introduce a new generation of LithiumSafe™ fire containment solutions engineered to meet the requirements of UL5800, an emerging standard for Personal Electronic Device (PED) fire containment in aviation.
This new and rigorous testing protocol simulates an ultra worst-case scenario of cylindrical 18650 type lithium-ion battery cells going into full thermal runaway at a 100% state of charge. Besides the extreme scenario, the standards requires zero smoke emission throughout the test cycle.
This new generation LithiumSafe Kit contains the following items:

Fire Containment Bag

The LithiumSafe™ lithium battery fire containment bag incorporates an advanced multi-layer insulation system manufactured entirely from non-combustible materials. Engineered to withstand continuous temperatures up to 1100 °C (2012 °F), it is specifically designed to contain the extreme heat generated during thermal runaway events.
Its exceptionally low thermal conductivity helps reduce heat transfer while preserving a lightweight, space-efficient design. The insulation remains dimensionally stable at elevated temperatures, resists thermal shock, and delivers dependable battery fire containment performance in critical aviation environments.

Building on the globally trusted First Generation Kit (LSKT4744), this New Generation LSKT1000 Kithas been redesigned in close cooperation with leading international airlines to further enhance deployment speed, operational reliability, and crew confidence during high-stress emergency situations.
Stress-Proof Closure System for Reliable Emergency Deployment
The LSBB1000 bag is equipped with two metallic side-release buckles integrated into the flap as an additional closing mechanism. While these buckles do not directly increase the fire-containment rating, they significantly improve operational reliability.
The buckles ensure that the Velcro sealing strips are fully aligned and closed — even in high-stress situations.
The buckles are custom-engineered specifically for the LithiumSafe™ Fire Containment Bag and include enlarged tabs together with an integrated magnetic guidance system, allowing crew members to close the bag quickly while wearing LithiumSafe™ gloves.

Note: The LSBB1000 successfully passed all fire tests with the side-release buckles unfastened. As the buckles do not contribute to the fire-containment performance, they are classified as an alternative construction within the test report. The version without buckles is available under part number LSBB1000.1.

UL5800 Fire, Smoke & Gas Containment System
A critical requirement of UL 5800 is the containment of smoke and hazardous gases generated during a lithium-ion battery thermal runaway event, including hydrogen fluoride (HF), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H₂), and VOCs.
The LithiumSafe Fire Containment Bag safely contains flames and extreme heat while allowing controlled pressure relief to prevent excessive internal pressure. However, the bag alone does not meet the smoke containment requirements of UL 5800.
To achieve UL 5800 compliance, the Fire Containment Bag must be used together with the LithiumSafe Smoke Containment Sleeve (LSSC6550). This secondary containment layer is specifically designed to contain smoke and toxic gases released during thermal runaway.
Important: The LithiumSafe Fire Containment Kit (Fire Containment Bag and Gloves) is only UL 5800 compliant when used in combination with the LithiumSafe Smoke Containment Sleeve (LSSC6550). Together, they provide protection against the primary hazards of lithium battery thermal runaway: fire, smoke, and toxic gases.
