The LithiumSafe™ Battery Box is a professional fire containment solution for the safe storage, charging, transport, and quarantine of lithium-ion batteries, battery packs, and electronic devices.
Its advanced triple-layer construction combines a lightweight aluminum exterior, highly advanced thermal and fire-resistant insulation, and a stainless-steel interior. This design enables the box to contain and thermally insulate battery fires with temperatures reaching up to 1400°C.
Integrated pressure-relief vents and filtration systems safely manage the extreme pressures generated during a lithium battery thermal runaway event. The LithiumSafe™ Battery Box has been practically tested to contain thermal runaway incidents involving up to 7000 Wh of lithium battery energy

Note: The video shows a fire test carried out by an external, independent test laboratory. The model box used is the “XL” (LSBX0155) and the total capacity/energy of the battery pack is 7000 Wh (7 kWh). Never before has a fire containment system been successfully tested to contain such a high energy load.
Can lithium-ion batteries be charged inside the LithiumSafe™ Battery Box?
Yes. Batteries can be safely charged inside the box. The optional Charging/Cooling System consists of an integrated power strip and ventilator that allow batteries to be charged inside the box while maintaining a cooler internal environment during normal charging operations. The power cord of the integrated power strip passes through a specialized fire-sealing cable entry system installed in the wall of the box.
Can charging or communication cables be routed through a battery fire containment box?
Yes. The LithiumSafe™ Battery Box can be supplied with a pre-installed cable entry system, allowing charging cables and communication wiring to be safely routed through the wall of the enclosure while maintaining the fire containment barrier. The cable entry plugs are supplied separately and are custom-manufactured to match the outer diameter of the cable or cable bundle being routed through the box. Each plug consists of two halves, allowing it to be easily fitted around an existing cable before being inserted into the cable entry system.
Does the ventilator help cool down a lithium battery fire?
Absolutely not. The ventilator is not designed to cool, suppress, or control a thermal runaway fire.
The purpose of the ventilator is to maintain a cooler interior environment during normal battery charging. This is particularly important because the LithiumSafe™ Battery Box is heavily insulated on all sides, including the walls, base, and lid. While this insulation is essential for containing and thermally insulating a thermal runaway event, it also means that heat generated by batteries during normal charging can accumulate inside the enclosure.
The ventilator helps prevent this heat build-up by circulating air and removing excess heat during charging operations. Fire containment during thermal runaway is provided entirely by the passive construction of the box and does not depend on the ventilator.
Why does a lithium battery fire containment box require pressure-relief vents?
Lithium battery thermal runaway events can generate large volumes of hot, highly flammable, and potentially explosive gases, resulting in a rapid build-up of internal pressure. The integrated LithiumSafe™ pressure-relief vents are designed to safely release excess pressure while maintaining fire containment and reducing stress on the enclosure.
Can flames escape through the vents of the LithiumSafe™ Battery Box?
The LithiumSafe™ pressure-relief vents are equipped with specially engineered high-temperature-resistant, non-combustible filter media. These filters allow the controlled release of pressure and gases generated during a thermal runaway event while preventing the passage of flames. The filter structure remains breathable, allowing airflow and pressure equalization without compromising the fire containment performance of the box.
Can a battery fire containment box be reused after a thermal runaway event?
No. Following exposure to a lithium-ion battery thermal runaway event, the LithiumSafe™ Battery Box should not be reused.
This is not because the box loses its structural integrity or thermal insulation performance. It is because a thermal runaway incident typically leaves the interior heavily contaminated with battery residue, soot, and combustion by-products.These residues can be hazardous to human health, are difficult to remove completely, and often produce a strong, persistent odor. Because of this, LithiumSafe™ recommends replacing the box after a thermal runaway event.
Does a battery fire containment box prevent thermal runaway from occurring?
No. The purpose of the LithiumSafe™ Battery Box is to safely contain the fire, heat, pressure, and hazards that may result from a thermal runaway event.
Can a lithium-ion battery fire be extinguished?
No. The LithiumSafe™ Battery Box is a completely passive fire containment system and does not require water, cooling agents, fire extinguishing media, or external suppression systems to perform its intended function.
The purpose of the box is not to extinguish a lithium battery fire, but to safely contain and thermally insulate the thermal runaway event. From a scientific perspective, fully extinguishing a lithium-ion battery thermal runaway reaction is extremely difficult because the cells generate their own oxygen during decomposition. As a result, the reaction can continue even in environments where external oxygen is limited.
While water may temporarily cool surrounding materials and reduce visible flames, it does not necessarily stop the internal chemical reactions occurring within the battery cells. In some battery chemistries and failure scenarios, contact between water and battery components may even introduce additional hazards. For this reason, the LithiumSafe™ Battery Box is designed around a passive containment philosophy rather than active extinguishment.
All LithiumSafe™ thermal runaway fire tests have been successfully conducted without the addition of water, cooling agents, or fire extinguishing media.
Why not simply use a steel box?
A conventional steel box may contain flames initially, but it offers little thermal insulation and typically lacks engineered pressure-relief systems.
The LithiumSafe™ Battery Box combines fire containment, thermal insulation, and controlled pressure management in a single integrated solution specifically designed for lithium-ion battery thermal runaway events.
